Behind-the-Scenes Look: Baymeadows Movers Partners with Chipman and OMA to Haul Away Legacy Equipment from AMC Theatres

July 20, 2026

Most people walk into a movie theater focused on the movie they're there to watch. They notice the giant screen, plush seats, and maybe the smell of fresh popcorn. What they don't see is all the work happening behind the scenes to make that experience possible—or what it takes when it's time to retire decades of gear and open the door for the future.

Not long ago, Baymeadows Movers was able to partner with Chipman Relocation & Logistics on a distinctive commercial moving project through our membership in the Office Moving Alliance (OMA). As a team, we assisted with the removal of outdated projection equipment from several AMC Theatre locations. It was not your typical commercial move. It required careful planning, specialized equipment, experienced crews, and seamless coordination between dependable relocation partners.

Jobs like these are one of the reasons we love what we do. No two commercial moves are exactly the same, and that's what makes our work rewarding.

Every Commercial Move Has a Story

Every Commercial Move Has a StoryOne of the best elements of commercial moving is the range of work.

One week we're moving an entire school before students return for the new year. The next we're moving physical therapy equipment to a new healthcare facility. Then we are inside a movie theater, meticulously disassembling and removing equipment that has entertained millions of people over the years.

This AMC project was notably memorable because it entailed removing large digital cinema projection systems, along with several pieces of historic 35mm projection equipment. Walking into the projection booths felt like going back in time. Some of the film projectors and reels had been part of the movie-going experience long before digital projection was established as the industry norm.

For film fans, it was riveting.

For our crew, it was a reminder that every piece of equipment we move has its own history.

Great Projects Begin with Thoughtful Planning

Great Projects Begin with Thoughtful PlanningProjects like this do not begin when the moving truck arrives.

Long before the first projector is unplugged, our team maps out logistics, scheduling, building access, equipment requirements, manpower, and safety planning.

Working alongside Chipman Relocation & Logistics, we managed every phase of the project to ensure each theater could be completed efficiently and safely. One of the top advantages of being part of the Office Moving Alliance (OMA) is having access to a nationwide network of experienced commercial movers who uphold the same commitment to professionalism and customer service. By combining Chipman's national relocation expertise with Baymeadows Movers' local knowledge and project management experience, we were able to complete the work seamlessly from start to finish.

Cinemas weren't built with equipment removal in mind.

Projection booths are often tucked away on upper levels with narrow hallways, snug doorways, and limited access. A few buildings have elevators, while others do not. Moving large projection systems through those spaces requires much more than simply loading them onto a dolly and heading for the truck.

Every challenge has to be anticipated before work even begins.

That's where experience makes the difference.

It's About More Than Muscle

It's About More Than MusclePeople often assume moving heavy equipment is simply about brute strength.

The truth is that commercial moving is about preparation and planning, technique, and having the right tools for the job.

Jobs like the AMC equipment removal demand specialized dollies, rigging equipment, lift systems, protective materials, and seasoned crews who know how to safely maneuver oversized equipment through narrow spaces.

Each projector had to be thoughtfully disconnected, protected, guided through the building, and carefully loaded for transport.

A lot of these systems are not only heavy—they're also extremely delicate. A single careless bump into a doorway or uneven transition could result in significant damage.

Patience and communication are as important as physical strength.

Protecting the Building Is Just as Important

While our focus is on safely moving equipment, we're equally focused on preserving the customer's facility.

Commercial structures represent a significant investment, and even small repairs can prove disruptive and expensive.

Once a project is complete, our goal is for customers to remember how smoothly everything went, not the moving process itself.

Teamwork Makes the Difference

Big commercial moving projects are never a single-person task.

Each member of the crew has a specific role, and communication is key from start to finish.

One person may be steering equipment through a doorway while another manages the load. Someone else is tracking clearances, while another crew member is preparing the next piece for transport.

When veteran crews work as a team, there is a rhythm that takes shape. That's something that isn't learned overnight.

Watching our crew work together was a great example of what happens when veteran movers share the same commitment to safety, communication, and customer service.

A Little Enjoyment Along the Way

Baymeadows Moving and Storage team having a little funEven during high-pressure commercial projects, it's worthwhile to enjoy the experience.

Working inside movie theaters absolutely had its perks.

Our team couldn't help sneaking downstairs for some movie snacks during breaks in tasks on the project. After spending the day behind the scenes where not many people ever get to go, popcorn for some reason tasted even better.

These moments make long workdays memorable and remind us that while we take our work seriously, we also enjoy what we do.

Commercial Moving Is More Than Transportation

Commercial Moving Is More Than TransportationMost people assume moving companies just load trucks and unload them somewhere else.

Commercial moving is far more than that.

These engagements often involve logistics planning, inventory management, warehousing, project management, scheduling, handling of specialized equipment, and coordinating multiple contractors.

Every customer has different needs.

Some businesses have to relocate hundreds of employees across a weekend.

Some need sensitive medical equipment relocated without disruption.

Some projects occur overnight to limit downtime.

Others—like the AMC project—require carefully removing specialized equipment from unique environments.

Each move requires flexibility, preparation, and problem solving.

At Baymeadows Movers, when a customer asks, "Can you help with this?" our first instinct is almost always, "Let's figure out how."

Hands-On Experience Builds Confidence

For decades, Baymeadows Movers has been proudly serving Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, and we've learned that successful projects always hinge on the same basics:

Preparation.

Communication.

Professionalism.

Trust.

Our customers know we'll arrive prepared, stay in touch throughout the job, handle their property with care, and solve problems rather than create them.

No matter if we're working inside schools, hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, government facilities, entertainment venues, or commercial campuses, our approach stays the same.

Protect the customer.

Protect the equipment.

Finish the work safely.

Leave the site better than we found it.

Protecting a Piece of Movie History

Protecting a Piece of Movie HistoryAmong the unforeseen highlights of this project was seeing some of the original 35mm projection systems that once brought so many movies to life.

Long before streaming services and digital cinema, these machines created memorable experiences for generations of moviegoers.

Working alongside them gave our crew a true appreciation for how much technology has advanced over the years.

It's not every morning that a moving company gets to help retire a small piece of entertainment history.

Speaking for us, it truly was an experience we'll never forget.
